ROLE OVERVIEW
The Chef supports the Head Chef in delivering a high-quality food experience at Bar Kaeru. This role focuses on consistent execution, attention to detail, and maintaining kitchen standards within a fast-paced, bar-style dining environment.
Working within a close, service-driven kitchen, the Chef contributes to both the technical preparation of food and the overall rhythm of service, ensuring each dish reflects the intention and identity of Bar Kaeru.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes, standards, and direction from the Head Chef.
- Ensure consistency, portion control, and presentation across all dishes during service.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workstation throughout preparation and service.
- Assist with mise en place, including preparation of ingredients, sauces, and components for service.
- Support the coordination of service, ensuring timely execution and communication with front-of-house staff.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation (FIFO).
- Monitor stock levels within the section and report shortages or issues to the Head Chef.
- Minimise waste and contribute to efficient use of ingredients and resources.
- Assist with cleaning duties, including end-of-service kitchen cleaning and equipment maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house team to maintain a smooth and respectful service environment.
- Support menu development and improvement where appropriate, under the guidance of the Head Chef.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen (required; level dependent on role).
- Basic knife skills and understanding of kitchen operations.
- Food Safety Certificate.
- Valid working rights in Australia.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
