ROLE OVERVIEW

The Baking Assistant supports the Baker in the preparation and production of baked goods, contributing to a consistent and efficient workflow. This role focuses on precision, organisation, and care in handling ingredients and processes, forming the foundation of daily production.

As part of Tomism, the Baking Assistant contributes through attentiveness, reliability, and a willingness to learn and grow within the craft of baking.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of baked goods, including weighing ingredients, mixing, shaping, and basic finishing tasks.
  • Support daily production processes to ensure products are prepared on time and to standard.
  • Follow recipes and instructions accurately under the direction of the Baker or supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the baking and kitchen areas, including benches, equipment, and storage.
  • Wash utensils, trays, and equipment used during production.
  • Assist with packing, labelling, and presentation of baked goods where required.
  • Help with receiving and storing deliveries, including proper stock rotation (FIFO).
  • Monitor ingredient levels and notify supervisors of shortages.
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning and setup tasks.
  • Support general kitchen operations as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous kitchen or baking experience preferred but not essential.
  • Interest in baking and food production.
  • Food Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid working rights in Australia.
  • Availability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
