ROLE OVERVIEW
The Barista is responsible for delivering high-quality coffee and beverage service while contributing to a welcoming and engaging customer experience. This role requires technical skill, consistency, and an appreciation for detail, alongside a strong sense of hospitality and teamwork.
As part of Tomism, the Barista plays a key role in shaping daily interactions through care, craft, and connection.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve espresso-based coffee and other beverages to a consistently high standard, in accordance with recipes, training, and venue expectations.
- Dial in grinders and adjust extraction parameters to maintain quality and consistency throughout service.
- Monitor coffee quality, including taste, texture, temperature, and presentation, and make adjustments as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the coffee station, including espresso machine, grinders, tools, and surrounding areas.
- Provide friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable customer service, including taking orders, answering questions, and engaging with customers.
- Operate POS systems (including Square), process transactions accurately, and follow all cash handling procedures.
- Assist with food and beverage service where required, including delivering items and supporting front-of-house operations.
- Restock coffee beans, milk, cups, and other barista supplies, and monitor stock levels.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including machine calibration, cleaning, and shutdown procedures.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and service efficiency.
- Support overall venue operations as directed by supervisors or managers.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous barista experience preferred (minimum 2 year recommended).
- Ability to dial in espresso and manage workflow during service.
- Food safety knowledge or willingness to obtain certification.
- Valid working rights in Australia.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
